Edward Middleton

Director

Ed is a Director at etasca focused on the chemicals and energy markets. He has over 20 years of experience providing commercial and operational due diligence and strategy support to corporate and private equity clients across the chemicals and energy value chains.

His advisory experience includes strategy and corporate development, operational improvement, decarbonization and chemicals circularity strategies, technology-driven transformations and new business development.

Prior to joining etasca he was a Partner in KPMG’s energy team and before that he worked at ADNOC in its Refining and Petrochemicals Asset Management team supporting its global joint ventures.

Ed is committed to ensuring etasca gives our clients the best advice and that etasca is a positive force for its employees and other stakeholders driving the energy transition.

Andrew Inglis

Director

Andrew is a Director at etasca and has 20 years of experience within energy and chemicals. He has a focus on the energy transition – providing commercial, technical and environmental due diligence for project finance, M&A and strategic engagements.

He has deep expertise in the energy transition with recent experience supporting investors in e-fuels, energy storage, bio-fuels, recycling, battery materials and CCUS. He has led numerous multi-billion dollar due diligence projects globally.

Prior to joining etasca he was VP at Nexant leading and coordinating the energy and M&A teams. He is a chartered engineer and has seven years of operational and management experience with INEOS and BP.

He has a passion for positive change within the energy and chemicals industry and is an advocate for collaboration.

Matthew Porter

Director

Matt is a Director at etasca providing advisory services to the energy transition and chemical industries in the Americas. He has more than 15 years of experience in commercial and technical consulting within industry, and specialises in M&A transactions and project finance support.

Matt has extensive expertise in conducting market assessments, competitiveness benchmarking, O&M and technical benchmarking analyses.

He has also brought more than $15 billion in project finance to close, in addition to providing on-going stewardship to various others as the independent engineer. His portfolio of projects has ranged from green hydrogen, power-to-X, renewable diesel, and alternative leather through to sustainable polymers and specialty chemicals.

Prior to joining etasca, he was a Managing Consultant at Nexant where he led the M&A transaction support initiative in the Americas. Matthew received both his B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College.

Matt is committed to providing our clients in the Americas and globally with the best advice as they navigate the energy transition.

Dr Andy Ballard

Director

Andy is a Director at etasca advising clients across the energy and chemicals sectors.  He has nearly 15 years of experience leading commercial, technical and environmental due diligence on major capital projects and acquisitions globally.

He is an experienced project finance advisor advising on multi-billion dollar investments for export-credit agencies, development banks and commercial lenders.

Alongside project finance, Andy also has extensive experience providing advisory support for M&A transactions; conducting market and feasibility studies as well as undertaking technology reviews and benchmarking studies.

Prior to joining etasca he worked for Nexant, where he most recently led the firm’s project finance advisory activities, as well as heading activities across the Africa region.  He has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Cardiff, and previous industry experience.

Jun Goh

Director

Jun is a Director at etasca focused on client engagement delivery.  He has over 15 years of consulting experience advising clients in chemicals and the energy transition sectors, focusing on commercial, technical and environmental due diligence.

He is a leading expert in techno-economic analyses, including the development of market (supply/demand) and pricing forecast models and detailed cost of production/cost-curve modelling.  In addition, he has carried out numerous environmental due diligence assignments and LCAs on numerous products within the energy and chemicals value chains.

Jun has a passion for all things sustainable – from biofuels to e-fuels, biopolymers to plastics recycling, bio-based chemicals to low carbon intensity chemicals and everything in between.

Prior to joining etasca he was a Project Manager in Nexant, and he graduated as a Chemical Engineer from Imperial College London.  He is fluent in English, Chinese and Malay.

Harry Morton

Associate Director

Harry Morton is an Associate Director and is Head of Low Carbon for etasca. He has 10 years of experience providing strategy and transaction support services to private equity and corporate clients in the energy and chemicals markets. In recent years, he has focused on the clean fuels and molecules sector, including hydrogen, bio and CCS, where he has deep market and technical expertise.

He is experienced providing commercial and technical due diligence to support M&A and has advised multiple clients on corporate strategy – covering market entry, capex allocation and business plan development. He has many years of experience undertaking financial and techno-economic modelling across the energy and chemicals value chains – including price and demand forecasting and cost-curve modelling.

Prior to joining etasca, Harry was the Head of Low Carbon Molecules at consultancy Gemserv and before that he was a consultant at S&P Global. He holds a first-class Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Sheffield.

Emma McFarlane

Business Development Lead, EMEA

Emma is etasca’s business development lead for EMEA. She has over 30 years of experience across the energy and hydrocarbon industries. She has supported USD 8+ billion in project finance for greenfield petrochemical and fertilizer plants and refinery upgrades, working with banks and export credit agencies.

Before joining etasca, she worked for several of the world’s largest energy companies including British Gas, Texaco, Chevron and Centrica – supporting their upstream strategies, acquisitions and sale/exports of oil in the FSU region. She also previously worked for a leading energy simulation software modelling firm, examining the impact of the energy transition. Emma has considerable experience in the biofuels and hydrogen markets.

Emma speaks Russian and several European languages fluently and is passionate about sustainable industry development and zero emissions.

Tony Regan

Transition Fuels Lead

Tony leads etasca’s transition fuels offering. He has 40 years of experience in industry (Shell) and as an energy advisor.

He has extensive experience working with lenders and financial institutions in M&A, project finance and IPOs. Prime focus over the last 25 years has been on biofuels, base oils, aviation fuels, marine fuels and hydrogen and LNG. He has also covered gas optimisation, transportation and infrastructure (storage, terminals & pipelines). 

Tony has led strategic options reviews, due diligence, screening studies, feasibility studies, technology appraisals and project benchmarking, project design, detailed business cases and supply/demand and price forecasts.

David Lines

Senior Associate

David is a Senior Associate at etasca focused on the chemicals sector. He has over 30 years of experience providing commercial and operational due diligence and strategy support to clients across the petrochemicals, polymers and chemicals value chains.

Prior to joining etasca he was GM at Astra Polymers managing its global manufacturing operations – he also held managerial roles at Ciba.

David brings extensive expertise in the MENA region, having advised numerous major chemicals producers in the area. He holds a BSc in Polymer Technology and is an Associate Member of the Institute of Managers, UK.

David is committed to ensuring etasca gives our clients the best advice and that etasca is a positive force for its employees and other stakeholders.

Andrew Skinner

Business Development Manager, Americas

Andrew is a Business Development Manager at etasca, responsible for generating new sales leads and facilitating growth in the Americas. He has more than 20 years of experience as an M&A consultant focusing on the energy and chemicals sector, with extensive background in acquisition screening, technology reviews, M&A strategy mentoring and project finance.

Prior to joining etasca, Andrew worked for Nexant as the M&A BD lead in the Americas. He also previously managed the growth of a biodiesel and additives producer by originating deal flow and leading acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, partnerships, and IP licensing. He has a BS in Chemical Engineering WPI and MBA from RPI.

Andrew is keen on providing customised service to ensure our clients have the right tools and information to optimally execute their energy transition strategies.

Ora Lazic

Business Development Manager, EMEA & APAC

Ora has more than 25 years of work experience in the energy and chemicals industries, including management consulting and advisory experience.
She has deep knowledge of these markets and its trading infrastructure, as well as pathways for the energy transition and sustainability.

Before joining etasca, she worked for global advisory practices, most recently with S&P Global, where Ora was responsible for growing its voluntary carbon markets and hydrogen business.

She is a native Russian and Kazakh bi-lingual speaker, and passionate about contributing to the global energy and materials transition journey.

Brandon Derbyshire

Consultant

Brandon is a Consultant at etasca and an accomplished graduate holding a BA (Hons) in Business Management and an MSc in Management and Business Analytics.

Based in the Middle East, Brandon brings a strong understanding of regional markets. He is experienced performing etasca’s core methodologies – including market (supply and demand) and price forecasting as well as cost modelling. He is also experienced conducting market studies and commercial due diligence assignments across the energy and chemicals markets.

Embracing etasca’s vision, he ardently supports the energy transition and circularity in the chemicals sector to secure a sustainable and profitable future for the industry.

Samson Lai

Consultant

Samson is a Chemical Engineer with experience undertaking commercial and technical due diligence across several markets and technologies in the energy and chemicals sectors. His energy-based project experience covers Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and low carbon fuels (hydrogen, ammonia, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and biofuels). He has also undertaken numerous chemicals sector studies – covering base chemicals and intermediates, green-chemicals and chemicals recycling technologies. He is experienced forecasting market prices, product supply and demand and evaluating production economics/cost curves.

His previous industrial experience in chemical and manufacturing plants provides a strong foundation in both technical and operational aspects of the industry.

Samson is fluent in Mandarin and Malay and holds a first-class MEng degree in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London.

Benjamin Ho

Consultant

Benjamin is a Consultant at etasca and is experienced undertaking commercial and technical due diligence to support transactions in the energy and chemicals markets. He has conducted market studies across these sectors – including developing market forecasts for conventional fuels and biofuels, green hydrogen and automotive fluids (base oils/lubricants etc.). He regularly contributes to etasca’s thought leadership – covering topics such as low carbon fuels (ammonia, hydrogen etc.), tank terminal infrastructure and cost of production economics.

He has the essential programming skills needed to analyse complex data and to develop robust supply and demand forecasts and cost of production and market price modelling. Benjamin’s previous professional experience included working for a leading investment management firm and an oleochemical manufacturing plant.

He holds a MEng in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London.

Sahil Mahindrakar

Consultant

Sahil is a consultant at etasca, specialising in commercial and technical due diligence across the energy, chemicals and infrastructure sectors. His project experience covers low carbon fuels (Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and other bio and e-fuels), chemical recycling, bulk storage and emissions-to-liquid (ETL) technology. In the chemicals sector, he has worked on studies covering bio-chemicals, methanol, ammonia and many other molecules from intermediates to highly specialised chemicals.

He is experienced developing rigorous techno-commercial analyses – including market (supply and demand) and pricing forecasts as well as cost of production/cost-curve modelling.

With a strong foundation in project finance and infrastructure engineering, Sahil’s experience spans technical, operational and commercial aspects – drawing from hands-on exposure to industrial processes.

Sahil holds a Master’s degree in Infrastructure Engineering and Management from the University of Surrey and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Zen Wong

Consultant

Zen is a Consultant at etasca, specialising in technical and commercial due diligence to support M&A and project finance transactions across the energy transition, sustainable chemicals, and infrastructure sectors. He has worked on projects involving low-carbon fuels (Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), e-fuels, and biofuels) as well as advanced materials such as aerogels and thermoplastic composites. He is highly passionate about supporting the energy transition by enabling investment into emerging technologies, particularly Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), carbon capture and Power-to-X (P2X) solutions.

Zen brings strong analytical skills, with experience in developing supply and demand forecasts, cost of production models, and market price assessments. His previous professional experience at a consulting firm has also equipped him with a solid foundation in the commercial aspect of the industry.

Zen is fluent in Mandarin and holds a First-Class MEng degree in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London.

Helen Russell

Equator Principle & SDD Independent Associate

Helen is a consultant social advisor to Etasca, deployed for specific projects. She has over 25 years of experience supporting project finance engagements using the Equator principles

Her due diligence experience has focused on the renewable energy, oil & gas and mining industries. She specialises in social and environmental due diligence and has an extensive network of associates to execute ESG coverage for most large-scale projects.

She is also an advisor to the World Bank Group’s Eastern and Central Asian Department. She has 8 years of experience working with the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) and for their Export Credit Agency (UK Export Finance).

Robert Spence

Environmental Specialist

Robert has 25 years of environmental consulting experience, working internationally and in the UK. Robert was previously resident in the Sultanate of Oman and the UAE where he consulted on turnkey solutions for environmental and social impact assessments.

Robert is highly experienced in the provision of environmental and social due diligence reviews, procedures and management systems, and Equator Principle alignment for major energy and chemical projects.
